PNP Seeking Co Passengers of OFW with MERS-COV Finding
Dept. of Health(DOH) said yesterday the Philippine National Police(PNP) is helping them locate the co passengers of the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who was initially diagnosed with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-COV) while in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). DOH Emerging Infectious Disease Program Manager Dr. Suy said they sought the help of the PNP to ensure that all that need to be tested and quarantined will cooperate. In the ongoing contact tracing by the DOH of the 415 passengers on board the said Etihad Airlines flight already traced re 119 passengers with 72 having been tested already of which 40 yielded negative results. PNoy earlier directed the DOH to form Task Force MERS-COV to intensify the contract tracing efforts for the co-passengers of the affected OFW. The OFW became the first MERS-COV case in the country when he came home last Tuesday for the Holy Week from the UAE where he was tested positive by Abu Dhabi health authorities. The OFW was tested following the contract tracing done by UAE officials to those who had gone near the second Pilipino fatality from the MERS-COV who died last Apr. 10. However at the time when the results came out, the OFW was already headed back to the Philippines. On Saturday the DOH already announced that he has been found negative of the virus after 2 laboratory testing by the DOH and is now ready for discharge from quarantine.
