MMDA Promotes Heat Stroke Break
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is urging the Local Government Units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to follow it's lead and also give their field personnel heat stroke break to protect them from the searing heat this summer. MMDA Chairman Tolentino said he's hoping the LGU's will give their traffic enforcers such privilege at least during this summer. On Tuesday traffic enforcers and street sweepers have started enjoying their own heat stroke break from 1pm to 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 3pm which health agencies and weather experts said is the hottest part of the day this season. During these 30 mins. breaks the field personnel are allowed to leave their posts alternately to rest and get away from the sun. Tolentino stressed that the heat stroke break is enforced through rotation so skeletal force of 1 to 2 personnel will remain at their posts at any given time. The heat stroke breaks will be in effect everyday from Apr. 8 to May 31, 2014 except on days when there are downpours. The agency will be giving out Heat Stroke allowances and free bottled water to those in afternoon shift. Aside from the 30 mins. break, traffic constables were also provided with summer uniforms black short pants and blue polo shirts and their standard head gears.
