Dept. of Justice Doubts Gigi Reyes as PDAF/Pork Barrel Scam State Witness
Atty. Gigi Reyes who quietly returned to the country on Saturday to face plunder charges filed against her may be the strongest link to tie Sen. Enrile to the Pork Barrel Scam but Justice Sec. De Lima expressed doubt yesterday whether she could be a state witness. De Lima said she believes that Reyes, who was the former Chief of Staff of Enrile had another agenda when she suddenly flew back to the country after hiding in the United States for almost 6 months after plunder charges were filed against her Sen. Enrile, Sen. Estrada and Sen. Revilla as well as scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles before the Office of the Ombudsman. De Lima admitted that she was uncertain whether Reyes would qualify as a state witness by the Office of the Ombudsman. The DOJ chief said that unlike Ruby Tuason one of the accused in the plunder case who turned witness, Reyes hasn't sent feelers to the DOJ about her return or on her willingness to become a state witness. But De Lima said she wasn't surprised by Reyes return. However she assured that Reyes return wouldn't have any adverse effect or impact on the plunder case. Reyes arrived before dawn Saturday on a Philippine Airlines flight from San Francisco, USA 8 months after she left the country. She first went to Macau after the scandal broke out. She worked for Enrile for 25 years and resigned only in January last year due to the controversy generated by the distribution of the cash gifts billed as additional maintenance and other operating expenses to senators.
