$30 Million MRT Extort Bid Probe Pushed
The Malacanang wants the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to hasten it's investigation into the alleged $30 Million extortion attempt in the Metro Rail Transit 3 expansion project but doesn't expect PNoy's elder sister Ballsy Cruz to be covered by the inquiry. PCO Sec. Coloma Jr. explained yesterday that the presidential sister has already been cleared by Czech Amb. Rychtar from the alleged extortion attempt. Coloma was responding to a media query whether the NBI would also look into the angle on the alleged involvement of Cruz in the extortion attempt. Last year Ballsy and her husband Eldon Cruz were implicated on the alleged attempt to extort money from the Czech firm Inekon Group in exchange for a contract to supply new coaches for the MRT 3 project. The couple allegedly visited prague in 2011 upon the invitation of Rychtar to meet with some businessmen. The Czech ambassador however later came out and claimed the MRT Gen. Manager Vitangcol III and some private individuals, not the Cruz couple were actually involved in the $30 Million extortion attempt. This prompted PNoy to order the NBI to investigate the allegations of extortion in the MRT project. Cruz appearing on a TV interview last July insisted that she and her husband weren't involved in anomalous government deal challenging her accuser to come out and show proof.
