Philippines-People Power Reenacted in Cebu
For the 1st time in 28 yrs. the People Power that took place in EDSA will once again make history as it will be reenacted in Cebu City today. PNoy will lead today's commemoration of the EDSA People Power at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Grounds, the first time the event will be celebrated outside of Metro Manila. A statement released by Malacanang said PNoy will lead celebrations of the 28th Anniversary of EDSA Revolution in different disaster struck provinces where recovery is evident due to the unity and solidarity manifested by different sectors of society. The activity in Cebu will begin at 8 am and will be highlighted by the historic salubungan of civilian and military groups. The civilian group will led by Sen. Aquino representing Sen. Butch Aquino, while the military group will be headed by actor Dingdong Dantes who will represent former FVR. Up to 7,000 people are expected to attend the event in the front of Cebu Provincial Capitol building. The event is open to all those who want to join and encouraged the people to wear yellow shirts. Yellow is the favorite color of Cory the widow of Philippine hero Ninoy who was catapulted to the presidency by the memorable event. Since the president is attending the security would be tight with the portion of Osmena Blvd. from Fuente Osmena rotunda to the corner of N. Escario St. and the corner of M. Velez St. to that of Gorordo Ave. were closed starting at noon yesterday until the end of the activity today. After the event in Capitol PNoy will go to the typhoon hit Bantayan Island, north of Cebu to inspect the Municipal Public Market in the island.
