Archbishop Tagle Said: Church Leaders to Attend "One Nation in Prayer"
PCO Sec. Coloma Jr. said Manila Archbishop Tagle and other religious leaders have been invited to attend the day of prayer on Jan. 20, 2014. "On Monday Jan. 20, 2014 at 5 pm in Malacanang, the President will lead 'One Nation in Prayer' to remember the live lost to the tragic incidents of 2013, to thank the Almighty for the nation's strength and resilience and to seek divine guidance as the country moves forward to rebuild the affected communities", Coloma said. Members of Congress, government officials and representatives of civil society and various faith groups have also been invited to the Palace affair. Asked if the presence of the Church leaders indicated smoother relations with the President, Coloma acknowledged that the government intense to have good relations with the leaders of different faiths in every opportunity. When asked who to reached out to whom, Coloma said: "The reaching out was mutual. There has been constant dialogue between the President and Cardinal Tagle and leaders of various faiths." Relations between the president and some catholic church leaders turned sour when Aquino pushed for the swift passage of the reproductive health bill in Congress. The catholic church has strongly opposed the alleged anti-life measure but the president pursued his advocacy and eventually signed the measure into the law. Meantime, Coloma appealed a new to the public to pause and join the day of prayer in their respective homes, communities, places of work and worship next Monday. He also thanked the members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) for their coverage of this event that will enable more Pilipinos to participate and join "One Nation in Prayer".
