After Sacking Weiss, PFF Hopes to Name New Coach Very Soon
With the AFC challenge scheduled in May, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) will now have to look for a new coach without delay after it officially terminated the contract of Michael Weiss as coach of the Philippine Azkals yesterday. In a statement released yesterday, the PFF said it is in the process of reorganizing the coaching staff as it entertains hopes of winning not just the Challenge Cup but also the AFF Suzuki Cup in November. Weiss contract which actually ends in March, will be terminated effective tomorrow as the PFF wanted to give his replacement enough time to prepare the team before the Challenge Cup in Maldives. The announcement officially ends Weiss tenure as coach of the Azkals, who under his watch saw them reach the semifinals of the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup and 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup. The PFF didn't further discuss the reason for Weiss exit but it appears that the management wanted a more experienced coach who could lead the Azkals to the next level. With Weiss departure, Azkals team manager Dan Palami can now begin the process of shortlisting the candidates for the job. Palami said he has 6 candidates on his list but kept mum on mentioning their names. He added that some of them have vast experiences as a player and coach overseas. The long time national team boss added that it may take about 15 days after PFF's decisions before a new coach is named.
