D.M. Consunji Awarded with Php 1.3 Billion Rehab of NAIA 1
Dept. of Transportation and Communications Bids and Awards Committee yesterday awarded the Php 1.3 Billion civil works contract for the NAIA 1 rehabilitation project to D.M. Consunji Inc. Transportation Sec. Abaya announced yesterday the contracts covers the structural and architectural construction works for the NAIA 1 rehabilitation projects as well as the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire components. To recall the admin. earlier approved a Php 1.1 Billion allotment for the structural and aesthetically improvements on NAIA Terminal 1, which was adjudged as the World's Worst Airport by international travelers for 2 years now. The NAIA 1 rehabilitation is also being pushed for the expected surge of visitors and tourist because of Manila's hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2015. From the Php 1.1 Billion allotment, Php 500 Million is provisionally set aside for aesthetics and interior design of the airport facility, Php 300 Million will be spent for the construction of Rapid Exit Taxiway (RET) to relieve runway congestion and minimize delays of incoming or outgoing flights and Php 340 Million will be used to improve the structural integrity of the airport terminal building. Another Php 20 Million will be used for the repair and rehabilitation of all the 72 toilet facilities in the terminal, which includes fixing the lavatories, water closests, urinals and amenities.
