Philippines-Dept. of Energy Shall Resign If Electricity is Not Restored on Dec. 24, 2013
The Secretary of Energy Jericho Petilla will vacate his position if he can't restore the power electricity within the Super Typhoon Yolanda devastated areas in Visayas Region on Dec. 24. He admitted that the self-imposed December target is "really very very tight" but promised to do his utmost best to meet the said deadline in a bid to bring hope to the victims during the yuletide season. During the press interview he said: "Do you want my position if i don't make December 24? You will have it. If i make it December 25, then i'll submit my resignation if that is what you want." He also explained that they were able to advance the power restoration target by December, instead of January, after getting more manpower and materials for the repair of the power facilities. Power restoration efforts will also be sustained since the roads have been clear of debris and reopened. "We assessed the available materials and the biggest help we got is the manpower. We have many volunteers from various electric cooperatives and as a result, we can advance the target date, it is actually possible to hit December 24, 2013."
