Philippines-Archbishop Villegas Cites Influence of Bruce Lee
The CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) Pres. Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas yesterday revealed that it was Bruce Lee who actually inspired him to enter the priesthood. Villegas said it was one of the writings of the Hong Kong-American Actor and martial arts artist that inspired him to enter San Carlos Seminary many years ago. "I was a Bruce Lee fan of all my life as a High School student until I came across that statement, He was a philosopher more than a martial arts artist. He will lead you to reflect about humanity, about human existence...he was a very balanced person." "2,000 yrs ago before Bruce Lee, another wiser man said in Galilee if the seed dies, it bears fruit I fell in love with this man wiser than my teen age idol. I laid aside Bruce Lee album and magazine collection and answered the call of Jesus come follow me." Said Villegas at that time. Villegas formally assumed the post as CBCP Pres. today succeeding Cebu Archbishop Joe Palma.
