Greece-Thessaloniki Metro: 3 years more to work

In a related event organized by HIT and CPA, Director of the Thessaloniki Metro, Mr. G. Constantinides stating among others that the project will be completed by the end of 2016.

Several important factors were the State and the competent bodies that were featured soiree titled "Thessaloniki Metro - Progress with implementation and prospects" organized by the Institute for Sustainable Mobility and Transport Networks (HIT), the ETSC and the Association of Greek Transportation (FTA).

Among alln, the Secretary General Public Works Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, S. Simopoulos, said: "... within a few years, the citizens of Thessaloniki going to enjoy the services of the most modern means of transport."

The President of the CPA, Mr. M. Karlaftis said inter alia that: "... goal of the Association is to make the Thessaloniki Metro the most important task in Greece and that the biggest bet is on providing quality services within the bosom of an integrated system."

The need for timely and hassle-free completion of the project highlighted including the director of the Institute for Sustainable Mobility and Transport Networks Prof. G. Giannopoulos and chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University, Mr. C. Anagnostopoulos while in the course of his speech, the director of the Thessaloniki Metro, Mr. George Konstantinidis briefed on the progress of the project and that, according to the contract, construction is expected to be completed in late 2016.

This timeline, not normally be respected as half of civil engineering and 80% of archaeological work are completed.

At the same time, Mr. Constantinides noted that in the summer progresses expropriations in adianoikto part of Pontus in Squid and opens the way for the extension in the Metro, which is the main priority, since about 100,000 Residents of eastern Thessaloniki and its environs will be served this.
