The way of taxing real estate and the disagreements between the three government partners for the extension of the hike through PPC bills is becoming a major problem that disturbs the delicate balances within the governmental coalition.
The political leaders will meet today at 7 pm in Maximos Mansion and are asked to give a solution to this and other outstanding issues, including the implementation of a mobility program for public employees, in view of troika’s arrival tomorrow.
Under Antonis Samaras, the economic team processes different scenarios for the property tax and yesterday minister Yannis Stournaras appeared optimistic once again.
The aim is to meet troika’s persistence, whereby without the hike and its recovery from PPC there is no guarantee for the collection of 3.2 billion euros from real estate, already included in this year’s budget. Also, to overcome the objections by DIMAR and PASOK for replacement of the fee on single real estate tax which with an introduction of a tax-free amount will be less of a burden on the weaker economic strata.
According to information, the most prevalent solution is to reduce the hike by 15% to 20%, while increasing real estate taxes.
