Marketed the first bionic eye

The green light to be sold in the first bionic eye gave yesterday, Thursday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) thereby giving hope to millions of people with severe vision problems.The bionic eye is intended for people who lose their sight due to retinitis pigmentosa-a rare, degenerative and incurable eye disease, which affects about one person in 4,000.Manufactured by the company that is based in California, Second Sight Medical Products. Called Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System and comprises a camera and an image processor, which is arranged in sunglasses. The photographic camera captures images, which instantly converts into an electronic signal, which is transmitted wirelessly to a special microchip implanted behind the eyeball.

The electrodes of the microchip decrypt the signal, which is then converted to a monochrome image, which will pass through the nerves in the brain, which can realize a light and shade patterns spots, depending on the electrodes are stimulated.

According to researchers, users of the bionic eye will be able to gradually learn and translate the visual patterns produced so as to take the form of clear images.

Already, the green light for commercialization of the Argus II have given European regulators.
